R66Y - Hope
3ds max, Photoshop, VRay
January 2008

Hey all, this is my first submission of work to this site.

The entire scene is 3d - It's virtually a direct render from 3ds max/vray, with just a few ps touchups.

Those of you who are familiar with the "Chrono" franchise of games by Square/Sqaure Enix will probably appreciate this image more than the rest.

The robot character is one of the characters from the SNES release "Chrono Trigger". For those of you familiar with the storyline, this scene may take place soon after Lucca fixes him in the future, and he stands in / sees the ruins that were once great cities for the first time since he was broken. I was trying to create a feeling of emptiness with a definite sense of hope by using a gradient of warm colors to softer blue tones on his reflections and in the sky. The relfections in his eyes may also symbolize this.

The model is dated, I modeled him over a year ago but never completed the texturing/scene development until now.

Also, as this was based off of an SNES game, my reference was very little in the scene and model, I even used game sprites as reference. These two pics were my main two reference pictures, although i used them loosely:

I dont think of myself as the greatest texturer, and many of the bitmaps are free maps I have found around the net which I reworked in PS or procedurally in MAX.

If people want to see it, I will post HiRes (2048x15whatever), wireframes, and whatever else you're interested in.

Thank you!

Ben Cole
